When Matt and Jill Johnson decided to purchase an old watering hole named Dirty Harry's, their reason was simple.  They wanted a great bar in historic downtown Council Bluffs.  

 

 

The youthful plan evolved into what Barley's became known for soon after the new restaurant and bar opened its doors in 2001 - a place were generations of friends and families eat, drink and gather together in everyday life as well as celebrate their milestone moments.  We expanded in 2006, which allowed us to serve even more patrons - and host larger private parties and special events.

 

 

Barley's is more than a bar.  And it's more than a grill.

 

 

We have 32 local and craft beer selections along with your domestic favorites on tap, from malty dark stouts to the freshest hazy IPA's.  Our bartenders pride themselves at making tasty and interesting cocktails and we have a wine selection sure to please any palates.

 

Barley's doesn't serve what is traditionally thought of as "bar food."  Our menu is more sophisticated than that.  When you have lunch or dinner at Barley's, you will experience the quality of a high - end restaurant with none of the stuffiness and exorbitant prices that often come with it.  There is something for everyone at Barley's.

 

Matt and Jill run Barley's alongside a staff committed to make every customer's experience is special.  Whether that be a daily customer for lunch or dinner, or a birthday party or class reunion.  In 2016, Barley's earned the Iowa Restaurant Association's Neighborhood Philanthropy award for all of their charitable and fundraising work for local charities and non-profits.
